While
playing against the hottest team in the international cricket these
days in packed Sharjah cricket stadium, an affiliate team like
Afghanistan was expected to crumble under pressure. However, Afghan
warriors who had survived gun fires and bomb blasts while growing up in
their war-torn country, took on this battle between bat and ball with no pressure whatsoever. They displayed their innate aggressive nature by hitting Gul and Ajmal into the crowd several times. However, their progress was soon halted by an equally, if not more, volatile Pakhtun brother, Afridi.
Boom boom showed no mercy as he picked up his 8th five-for to become only the 4th bowler to do so in ODI history. In the end, Afghanistan neither managed to play whole 50 overs, nor did they score over 200 runs, but they certainly made international debut with a big bang!
honestly afghan team's performing well,at the start of da match I was thinking that afghan team will score 50 or 60 (:P ),but there performance amazed me!you described them well,they are worriers!!

I admire Shahid Afridi for getting 5 against a new commer rather baby team.
We should appriciate Afghans and againg worry about our opening pair both in bowling and batting.
I wish there had been atleast one fast wicket to have real test match + ODI.

DeleteAfghans are a good team. Most of their players play in Pakistan and they are very capable of doing well.
Afridi was tied with Zaheer Khan as the highest wicket taker. So he has done well against good teams as well :)
Agree with working on weaknesses, such as opening bowlers and batsmen :)
Your wish will only be fulfilled when we play outside Pakistan :)
I agree win is win but against who, rather which team. Instead of celebrating Afridi 5 wickets, Pakistan skipper and the management should think about their bating opening and middle order and bowling open attack. If we look into the performance of open/middle order in particular during 6 innings of recent three tests played on dead wickets is quite worrying for Pakistan. I fully agree with a most succeful but worried skipper about his middle order. The real test for open attack and middle order will be the ODI, where the team has to perform within limited time and overs. Let us wait and see how Pakistan will be able to kepp their winning record or once again we will see the failuer like 3rd test 1st inning, in which England pace attack moved the ball and destroyed pakistani batting line on dead wicket. England has real potential and ability in bowling (both categories) and batting enough to destroy any team batting line up.
ReplyDeletePakistan has to go a long way to achieve that stable and consistant ability to pose a threat to any team in the world not Afghans.
I appreciate your concerns. No one has denied Pakistan team's weaknesses; Misbah has said several times that we need to work on our batting. But it's is not as weak as you think. Regarding 3rd test, yes we did poorly in the first innings, but came back and dismissed England on 141. Not only that, but 2 of our MIDDLE order batsmen scored the only 2 centuries of the series in the second innings. Regarding England's batting potential, we have seen enough of that during test series. But it's not the time to be overconfident. Actions speak louder than words. So, lets have this chat after the series :)
